Head of News Input

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Head of News Input is responsible for hiring, managing, and mentoring a team of producers and senior producers responsible for planning, assigning, and communicating editorial information coming out of Doha newsroom.

JOB DESCRIPTION

 Manage the Input Desk, including communicating and guiding team members to reach channel objectives

 Work with Producers and reporters to follow editorial policies set up by the News Director

 Lead a team with various levels of experience to news gather, plan daily event coverage and run crews

 Collaborate with the Editor in chief to advance the channel's coverage on all platforms

 Serve as the day-to-day manager overseeing the workflow of content coming out of Doha newsroom

 Ensure that stories are balanced, context is provided and the material meets our editorial standards

 Coordinate schedules and staffing for the planning and assignment operations

 Develop and implement effective systems to improve overall coverage needs

 Take part in recruitment interviews, train, and mentor staff

 Take on Head of News Output duties when needed 

Travel and carry out coverage abroad 

 To be involved in the training and development of editorial staff and junior members

 Perform additional duties and take on special projects


WORK EXPERIENCE

 Minimum of 10 years related experience including 3 years in planning and assignment management

 Experience in social media and digital platforms is an advantage


EDUCATION

Minimum bachelor’s degree in journalism or in a related field

 Excellent writing and interviewing skills

 Strong editorial judgment skills

 Proven leadership skills

 Creative vision and plan for content

 Excellent communication skill

 Ability to develop Multi-Media production skills

 Hard working and constantly chasing stories and contacts

 Computer and media asset management systems (e. INEWS)


KNOWLEDGE

 Excellent English

 Fluency in Arabic

 Editing and shooting 

 Expansive knowledge of local/regional current affairs


JOB DEMANDS

Able to accommodate flexible work schedule to support 24/7 TV environment including overnight and weekend assignment
